It allows you to lock in a guaranteed exchange rate for a set period of time before sending the funds. Unlike a spot transaction, where you must have the funds available to make your international payment immediately, here you have time to arrange the payment while the transaction is being processed. A small additional spread is charged for this protection.
Use this option when you're waiting to receive payments, need internal approvals, want to take advantage of a favorable rate but can't finance immediately, or want to protect yourself over weekends or holidays. If you already have the funds available, a cash transaction is more cost-effective.
The spread covers the market risk that Cobre assumes by locking in your rate, as well as financing and hedging costs. You will always see this cost listed separately in your quote.
Depending on the duration of the lock, the currency pair's volatility, market liquidity, and the amount. You'll see the exact spread in your quote before confirming.
During off-market hours (1:00 pm – 8:15 am), spreads may include additional adjustments.
Yes, as long as your total exposure does not exceed your approved limit. Each block is validated in real-time against your available capacity.
The transaction settles immediately at your locked rate. You don't lose value by making your payment early.
Yes. The system uses the FIFO (First In, First Out) rule. This means that incoming funds are applied first to the oldest hold. You can make a separate spot transaction only if the amount is less than your smallest hold, or if you use a different source account and complete the normal quotation and payment process.
No. Cobre covers the risk immediately upon confirming your rate. If you don't complete the transaction on time, default fees and penalties will apply. Only lock in when you are sure you can make the payment.
No extensions. If you need more time, choose a longer duration from the start (e.g., 36 hours instead of 12). Although the spread increases with duration, it's more economical than paying non-compliance fees.
No. You must fund the entire locked amount. If you're unsure of the exact amount, lock a smaller amount and process the remainder as a separate transaction.
The surplus is not converted at the locked rate. You can request a separate spot conversion or keep the excess in your balance.
It depends on your risk profile, transaction history, likelihood of compliance, and the expected exchange rate volatility for the selected duration.
